Maternity

The Obstetric Department at St Francis' Hospital has 50 maternity beds and is the main secondary and tertiary referral centre for a wide area.

Brian Magowan and Margaret Davison have now visited on five occasions (most recently in 2015) to run emergency life saving skills courses – each time teaching around 70 midwives, student midwives, clinical officers and doctors.

They have been helped by Faye Rodger, Sarah Turner, Steven Turner, Susie McFadzen, Nonie Oliver, Kerrie Blake, Lorraine Wilson, Mo Beavon, Sarah Murray, Rachel Magowan and Kerrie Thomson.

This work has been possible through fund raising activities, two THET grants and a BMA grant.

Training manuals for the teaching course were generously supported by Cambridge University Press.
